Working remotely can be an exciting thing especially if you have a home office. Today, almost any profession can work remotely, but majority tend to be self-employed. Having a home office is essential for remote workers as it helps you to stay organised and work without distractions.

Therefore, its essential to identify a quiet place which has enough light and offers you a stimulating environment for working. The team at Bricks+Agent have put together some simple tips to help you organise your home office.

1. Choose a comfortable space

When organising your home office, think about comfort before anything else. Is the area and your surrounds physically comfortable? You wouldn’t want to sit in an area which is always too cold or too hot, and the location should be well ventilated. Sitting in a comfortable environment helps you to stay productive throughout your working hours.

2. Remove clutter

You might find that your office is messy and full of clutter. There could be too many cables and wires, papers, books or other office equipment. Its time to get rid of what you don’t need. As much as everything might still have value, only keep the things you need and use to run your business.

You can get rid of many cables by moving to wireless printers, and bluetooth devices. That will save you from the pain of dealing with too many wires and potential hazards in your office. You should also clean your office regularly. Cleaning it often helps you to stay in a comfortable and appealing environment.

3. Choose an appropriate storage option

Filing cabinets can be helpful to store files in an office, but they are not enough. You might want to add shelves for keeping your books. However, if you have valuable information in piles of papers, you can consider storing them in a cloud filing software on your computer.

This will save you from having too many files in your office. When you choose to have a hard copy of your essential information, you should consider having a copy of them online, e.g. Use Google Drive to retrieve them in case your computer fails you.

4. A little inspiration won't hurt

As much as you are trying to declutter your home office, you can still boost its appearance. An attractive office increases your productivity. Consider adding encouraging quotes on your wall or interior pieces such as a lamp or sleek couch.

You might want to put some flowers on the table or near the window. You know what makes you feel competent and motivated to work. Whether it is a picture of your family, quotes or flowers, put it in your office and watch the lovely change in your productivity.

5. Ensure there is enough lighting

Whatever space you choose as your home office, make sure that enough light gets into the room. Whether it is during the day or at night, it should be a place where you can see everything. Ensure light bulbs are bright enough. If you don’t get enough light from outside during the day, consider buying a daylight bulb.

Your home office is your working space. You deserve working in a tranquil environment free from any distractions. Choose the right spot and make it as comfortable by being organised and adding a touch of your personality to the room.
