Use the right cleaning materials
The type of cleaning materials that you should use depends on your splashback material. You can use a glass cleaner, a general all-purpose cleaner or a specialist stainless steel cleaner.
You can use water and a gentle solution of a dishwashing detergent. Avoid abrasive or harsh cleaning products as they might have permanent damage to your finish.
Use the right cleaning cloth
Most splashbacks are sensitive to abrasive materials like metal scourer or plastic because they scratch the finish causing permanent damage. You should, therefore, use a paper towel or a lint-free cloth to clean marks and spills.
Dry the splashback with a different clean and dry cloth after cleaning the splashback to achieve a streak-free finish.
Get rid of splashes and spills immediately after they occur
Make a habit of cleaning any spills immediately they occur. It is easy to get rid of them when they are still fresh as you will be reducing the risk of staining on the splashback material.
The splashback should always be sealed
Make a habit of always sealing the splashbacks against water. It doesn’t matter what type of material was used to make them. The most important thing is to seal them. However, you will have to reapply a sealant on stone splashbacks after a few years.
You should ensure that the splashbacks have silicon on their outside edges to prevent water from penetrating behind them. Keep checking them regularly and replace them if there is need to do that.
